Old Fashioned Beer Bread

Five years ago I used to sell Tastefully Simple. My favorite and best selling product was their beer bread. Even now, when I go to a Tastefully Simple party, I can't leave without buying at least one box of their famous beer bread.

The other day I ran across a recipe for Old Fashioned Beer Bread. So this time I made it from scratch! It was delicious! The top of the crust was golden brown and gorgeous. It went so well with the chili we had for dinner that night.

Old Fashioned Beer Bread
as found on www.mommyskitchen.net

3 c. Self Rising Flour*
1/3 c. Sugar
1 (12 oz) Bottle of Beer

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the ingredients together. Grease and flour a loaf pan. Spread mixture into the pan, using a brush or your fingers smooth out the top of the loaf with melted butter. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. When the forty minutes are up remove bread from oven, make a slight slit down the top of bread and brush ¼ - ½ stick of melted butter on top and bake an additional 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool in loaf pan for 10 minutes, then remove to wire rack or plate and cool completely.

*How to make Self Rising Flour:

For each cup of all-purpose flour, add 1 1/2 t. of baking powder and 1/2 t. of salt. Mix to combine.
